“So Which One Was Chas Then?” Says Everyone

Music fans reacted with a mixture of sadness and confusion this week at the news that Chas Hodges, one half of singing duo Chas and Dave, had died. As the news spread, it became clear that whilst the pair were much loved amongst the general public, nobody had the first clue which was which.
“So which one was Chas then?” said Tanya Whyte-Bitz from Barnsley, echoing the words of many that we spoke to, “Was he the one with the cockney accent and the hat, beard and glasses or was that the other one? And even the pairs agent Tom Shyster was evasive when we caught up with him as he announced plans to re-release Gercha, Rabbit and Snooker Loopy. “Of course I know which is which” he said. But then when we asked him to point to Chas on a photograph of the pair, he claimed to have left his reading glasses in his other jacket and beat a hasty retreat.
Pearl King, head of The Chas & Dave fan club was no more forthcoming when we called her for comment “We are greatly saddened by Chas’s passing” she said , but when pressed on which one he was she became agitated and said “Look, you’ll find out soon enough when you see which one turns up to the funeral. Alright?”
