Barnsley Declared a Living Museum As Last Ditch Attempts At Modernisation Finally Abandoned

Tourism in Barnsley was given a massive shot in the arm this week, as the town was awarded ‘living museum’ status. The announcement follows weeks of speculation as frantic last-ditch attempts to modernise the town were finally abandoned.

“It seems like the right thing to do,” said a spokesperson for the towns tourist board. “We tried bringing things up to date, but it just wasn’t working.  And then we realised there is a gap in the market for a living museum…a homage to the 1970’s…and that’s how we’ll be promoting the town from now on.”

The Bugle understands that a feasibility study  discovered that very little work needs to be done to create an authentic representation of 1970’s Britain, although hundreds of Greggs, KFC and Macdonald’s  branches will have to be demolished,  and residents have been asked to update their wardrobes.
