Barnsley Residents Forced To Give Up Traditional Fortnightly Shower As Drought Continues

As the longest period of drought since 1976 continued this week, Barnsley residents were forced to sacrifice their fortnightly shower. Showering in the borough moved to a fortnightly cycle from the traditional ‘Sunday Night Special’ in 1986 just after most of the pits closed and local sweat glands healed up. But now the prospect of a water shortage has forced the local authority to impose  further restrictions.

“It really shouldn’t be a problem, “ said Ted Rogers from the environment agency. “The last time most of that lot broke sweat was when they were asked to attend a routine fitness for work assessment. But we’ve hired a crop spraying plane loaded up with Right Guard just to be on the safe side.”

As The Bugle went to press, officials in the Eastwood area of neighbouring Rotherham were making contingency bathing plans in the event of a hosepipe ban in the coming weeks.
