Big Hearted Steve Doing It Again For Charity

A big hearted local man has launched a charity appeal to raise money to give disadvantaged local youngsters the experience of their life.

Unemployed Steve Smiley from Rawmarsh is looking to raise £170,000 to purchase a Lamborghini Huracan so that he can give young people who haven’t had the best start, the opportunity to experience life in the fast lane in one of the world’s most sought after sports cars

“I want to put something back”, he told us when we caught up with him in his garage changing the oil on his 2002 Golf GTi. “I started with nothing so I know what it’s like. The plan is that the car will be available for two hours every fourth Sunday – weather permitting – so I should be able to take at least three people a month out in it. It’s going to be great.”

Not only is Steve intending to drive the youngsters around town, but he’s also planning  to keep the car in his own garage in between events. “I can’t expect anyone else to shoulder that responsibility”  he told us  “The Golf will just have to go out on the drive. I’m even going to put the petrol in out of my own pocket. It will be a bit of a stretch, but it’s for the kids.”

Steve is no stranger to charitable acts. Regular readers may remember him raising £20,000 back in 2014 to compete in The World Series Of Poker In Las Vegas. The plan was to spend the $1 Million  winnings on a new town centre facility for the homeless. Unfortunately, Steve got knocked out of the tournament on the first day,  and spent the rest of his  stay investigating the plight of local sex workers.
