Brinsworth Man Loses £3,000 In Mail Order Scam

A Brinsworth man claims he was tricked into paying out several hundred pounds for what ended up as worthless rubbish, by a mail order company.

Ernest Davies (62) from Ellis Street subscribed to  WW2 Secrets magazine back in January 2001. As part of his subscription, Ernest says that the publishers promised to send him “A carefully crafted part each month that will build into a lifelike model of a key building in the great conflict.” Ernest collected almost 200  parts over a 15 year period,  until last month when the final part arrived together with instructions for construction of the building.

“To be honest…”  he told us “Some of the parts looked a bit rough and I couldn’t figure out how they were going to fit together, but I trusted them.”

Just two weeks ago, Ernest received his latest magazine together with the instructions for construction of the mystery building he’s been waiting to build for 15 years. His voice quivering with emotion, he read the instructions out to us…

“Put all the parts in a bag. Give it a good shake and empty them out on the floor. You now have a lifelike reconstruction of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church after the allied bombings in 1943.”

Ernest has spent over £3,000 to get to this stage and he’s keen to avoid the same thing happening to anyone else sometime around the year 2030. His message is clear… “Make sure you know what you’re getting before embarking on a 15 year project like this” he said, “Either that or get yourself a life”.

Sage words which all our readers would do well to pay heed to.
