Number of NHS volunteers hits 17 million as reality of being locked down with family starts to bite

Organisers of the NHS appeal for volunteers to help with the Coronavirus effort, say that the number coming forward is growing exponentially and is predicted to include the entire able-bodied population by the weekend. As the Bugle went to press, 17 million people had already volunteered and the dedicated website had crashed.

A London man in his thirties who asked to be named as ‘Wills’ was typical of those we spoke to earlier today. “I used to do some work for the NHS in transport,” he told The Bugle “but I took a bit of a sabatical. I need to get back to it now. I’m stuck in the house with the three little un’s and the missus and they’re doing my absolute swede in. We’re not short of space but the little buggers find you wherever you are. Quite frankly, I’d rather take my chances with Coronavirus any day.”

The Bugle understands that the NHS plans to set up a Helpline staffed by the Samaritans to provide help and support to anyone who misses out on the opportunity to get out of the sodding house.
