Barnsley Trading Standards Department issue warning over ‘Coronavirus Masks’ following raid on market

Barnsley Trading Standards Department have issued a warning to the public following a raid on a number of stalls in the local market during which a quantity of ‘Coronavirus masks’ were recovered. Council officers say they are concerned that the masks may not be effective in preventing the spread of the disease.

“We raided the market this morning following a tip off,” a trading standards department spokesperson told the Bugle “and recovered a number of items labelled ‘Coronavirus mask’ in black felt tip.  Our preliminary investigations suggest that these masks are likely to be ineffective in stopping the spread of the disease and may in fact, have been originally manufactured for another purpose.”

One of the market traders affected by the raid told The Bugle “I don’t know what all the fuss is about. They’ve been selling like hot cakes and we haven’t had a single customer come back and say they’ve caught owt after wearing one….well not above the waist anyway.  We’re just been victimised.”

As The Bugle went to press, South Yorkshire police were understood to be investigating a possible link between the masks and a robbery at a nearby branch of Pulse and Cocktails three weeks ago.
