Social Services Called In As Parents Force Children To Sleep In Tin Box

Social services were called this afternoon after a family from Rotherham dragged their two children aged 6 and 4, out of the family home, and into a tin box abandoned in a windswept field somewhere near Skegness.

The family, who can’t be named for legal reasons, decamped from their luxury brick built property in the  Bramley area of the town  last week, and turned up on the east coast with  nothing but a suitcase of clothes, a thermos flask and a small stock of Kellogg’s cereal variety packs.

“It was pitiful to see” said a neighbour who witnessed them leaving. “The kids were in tears. I hate to say it, but I think they probably knew where they were going. It’s just cruel and I’m glad they’ve been reported.”

A spokesperson for Rotherham Social Services Department said “We’re seeing a rash of this sort of thing at the moment. For some reason, it’s always worse in summer. Obviously, we can’t be everywhere at once and so we rely on the public to alert us if they suspect children are being treated in this way.”

As The Bugle went to press there were reports that an entire village of children from Wombwell, near Barnsley,  had been forced into identical tin boxes in a former cow field near Mablethorpe.
