Barnsley Family Miss Holiday Flight As Airport Moving Walkway Breaks Down

A Barnsley family have told of their disappointment at missing their flight to Benidorm after the moving walkway they were travelling on, broke down.

The Bulge family from Wombwell say they had arrived at Manchester airport in good time for the 11.00am flight,  and had passed through security. But it was while they were on their way to the gate after their flight was called,  that the walkway suddenly stopped moving.

“We didn’t know what to do” said a still shaken Eddie Bulge back at the family home in Wombwell. “We waited for assistance, but it just didn’t come. Some people decided to pick their hand luggage up and try to make it on foot, but we thought it was safer to sit tight. It was a hot day and there was nearly 100 yards to go. We wouldn’t all have made it.”

Engineers eventually came and fixed the problem, but by then it was too late, and the Bulge’s plane had left.

A spokesperson for Manchester airport told The Bugle. “We have to apologise. At the moment, there are  no contingency plans in place if a moving walkway breaks down. We are now looking at investing in equipment we can use to winch anyone from Barnsley to safety, should we experience a similar breakdown in the future.”
