Twerking Terrific!

A Kimberworth Park grandmother came back from a holiday in Magaluf with more than she bargained for this week, after scooping first prize in an international twerking competition. Mary Archer (74) of Roughwood Road was in the popular Spanish resort with her husband Arthur when she spotted the competition advertised at an All Day English Breakfast cafe. Despite being half a century older than the next oldest competitor, Mary decided to enter at short notice and topped the scoring on all the judges score cards.

“To be honest I didn’t really know what twerking was” said Mary who had a double hip replacement last year “But it turned out Arthur was something of an expert.  He showed me 20 or 30 videos which luckily he had stored on a special folder on his phone, and that really helped.”

Aside from the ‘Shake Dat Ass Trophy’, Mary won £500 and a voucher giving a years free treatment at a local chiropractor.

Mary, who enjoys gardening and needlepoint in her spare time has no dancing experience other than a brief seven year stint as head Sunday lunch time stripper at the Trades Club back in the 1970s, where readers with long memories may remember her performing as Marie LeMelons. But she’s keen to point out that this experience didn’t really help.

“It was all about the tits and muff back then” she said “but this is all about the booty. It made a nice change to come off a stage with my keks on. They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Well I just proved them wrong.”
