Millers Fans Welcome Odemwingie Signing

Rotherham United last night completed the signing of out of contract striker Peter Odemwingie. The former Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion man joins the Millers, who currently sit bottom of the championship, on a short term deal until the end of January. It is new manager, Kenny Jackett’s first signing, and has met a generally favourable response with supporters. Superfan Jack Ford was typical of fans we spoke to last night.

“This is a great signing for us,” he said “a player with a name you can’t pronounce. They’re usually good and nearly always score against us. The last one we had that I remember is that Belgian fella from Norwich just before fatty left. I can’t remember his name because it was that hard to pronounce, but he was a right player. The only thing I’m a bit disappointed about is that Odemwingie hasn’t got one of them daft haircuts…primary colours or a pineapple or summat. I’ve noticed players with daft haircuts and names you can’t pronounce are even more likely to score against us. And I was hoping he might be the type who wears gloves and tights when it gets a bit parky because they nearly always score against us. But I’ve googled him and he was brought up in Russia so he’s not likely to be nesh.. Still, his name is really hard to pronounce and it starts with a vowel. So that’s good.”

The 35 year old Odemwingie joins other recent signing  30 year old Dexter Blackstock, in what is looking an increasingly experienced forward line. In unrelated news, the club have announced they will be promoting and supporting prostate awareness week for the first time this year.
