Former Ref Webb Set To Become New Face Of Head & Shoulders

The career of  Rotherham’s retired World Cup referee Howard Webb looks set to take another turn as it emerged that he is about to become the new face of anti dandruff shampoo, Head & Shoulders. In what will be seen by many as a bold move, advertising agency Bull Schmitt have chosen the Brinsworth born whistler for a new TV campaign to be launched in the New Year.

“It may seem a strange choice,” a spokesperson for brand owners Proctor & Gamble told us “but we already have almost 100 per cent of the snowflake shouldered hirsute market, so  now we’re looking to widen the brand appeal to encompass the slaphead sector. We’ve already flirted with the idea by using Joe Hart who lets face it, won’t be troubling the barbers for too much longer, and so thought we’d go the whole hog with Howard. In addition, he’s recently grown a beard. We see beard dandruff as a huge growth area for us.”

News of the new advertising contract will come as a welcome relief to Howard after plans for his new TV series were shelved earlier this year. Regular readers will recall that he had been earmarked for the Telly Savalas role  in a remake of the 1970’s hit TV series, Kojak. Due to budget restraints, the series was to be relocated to Rotherham and renamed Rojak. However, it was felt that the plot, in which former cop Howard would hide in bushes around the borough, before jumping out and issuing yellow and red cards to fly tippers and drinkers urinating in the street, lacked the dramatic impact of the original series.

We tried to speak to Howard for his comments but a spokesperson said he was away having his head polished.
